Klein Curaçao Pier
The pier had been inaccessible for a great number of years leaving boats and people with no easy access to the island. We designed a full concrete pier to ensure the structure’s durability, despite the difficult and costly transport to install the concrete components.
The main challenges this task required were the transportation and assembling of the pier on a deserted island. All materials were transported on a barge to the Klein Curaçao, including two concrete trucks, turning the barge into a construction site by default. Prefab concrete slabs were anchored on the already existing foundation of piles. The key was to have a stable pier resistant to subsidence.
